Our client – a market leading provider of Energy and Commodities Trading Software is seeking an interim finance and accounting specialist to join the team in Vienna and provide expertise and guidance through a crucial transition period.

The finance team has full purview over accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax, in addition to core accounting and financial reporting.


Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Finance in the UK, this is a key interim role that will help to ensure the accuracy, completeness and timely completion of the accounting for the subsidiary in Austria, including but not limited to:

  • Assist and help facilitate implementation of new financial system, by replacing BMD with Workday, and by working closely with local finance staff and London finance staff and project team
  • Assist with the transition of customer billing from Vienna to London systems
  • Implement improved process to track customer delivery milestones in terms of their treatment in financial accounts; assess revenue recognition under Austrian GAAP and IFRS
  • Either directly supervise or provide significant guidance and support to one local finance staff
  • Liaise with local tax advisor on more complex financial matters
  • Assist greater Vienna team with ad hoc queries, questions, and analysis
  • Drive and implement process improvements to all accounting processes that contribute to the financial statements, for month end, quarter end and year end close
  • Provide additional oversight on banking relationships and payment release control processes
  • Provide input into cash flow forecasting
  • Provide decision support on matters related to corporate structure, tax optimization, contracts, and working capital management


Must Have Skills and Experience

  • Fully bilingual in English and German
  • University graduate plus a designated accountant
  • 8+ years’ experience
  • People management / mentorship
  • Superior MS Excel skills
  • Strong knowledge of Austrian Commercial Code (UBG) / Austrian GAAP, with IFRS being a bonus)
  • Strong financial analysis skills, ability to undertake research
  • Strong organizational, analytical and conceptual skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Customer service orientation
  • Strong decision making and critical thinking skills


Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Previous experience in software industry or energy markets
  • Experience with Workday Financials
  • Experience with the Google Suite of Tools for Work (Sheets, Docs, Slides, G+ Community, Forms, etc.)
